An approved ATF Form 6 - Part I (5330.3A) is required to import firearms, ammunition, and defense articles into the United States or any possession thereof, except for certain exempt importations prescribed in 27 CFR Parts 447, 478 and 479.

This form is used to apply to permanently import firearms, ammunition and implements of war.

Form 6NIA - Application/Permit for Temporary Importation of Firearms and Ammunition by Nonimmigrant Aliens (ATF Form 5330.3D) This form is used to apply to temporarily import firearms and ammunition for lawful hunting or sporting purposes. For use by visiting foreign nationals (nonimmigrant aliens) only.

Form 9 - Application and Permit for Permanent Exportation of Firearms (ATF Form 5320.9) This form is used to obtain approval to permanently export a National Firearms Act (NFA) firearm and claim exemption from transfer tax. State Department export approval is required prior to ATF Form 9 being approved.

The ATF Form 6 NIA is valid for one year from the date of approval.

This is the form generally needed to import firearms, ammunition and other defense articles into the United States. Note: It typically takes the Firearms and Explosives Imports Branch (FEIB) personnel four to six weeks to process a properly executed ATF Form 6 import permit application.
