The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) is a Department of Defense (DOD)-funded program of instruction for high school-aged students administrated by the military departments (Army, Navy, and Air Force).

ROTC is short for Reserve Officers' Training Corps, which is a military training program for students who are currently enrolled in a college or university. The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) is the version of this program geared towards high school students.

Cadets who complete the four-year program can enlist after high school and enter recruit training at a higher rank (E-3 Private First Class instead of an E-1 Private). While JROTC is not a military-preparation program, it does have some military overtones.

The Army says 44 percent of all soldiers who entered its ranks in recent years came from a school that offered J.R.O.T.C.

Six of the eight branches of the Uniformed services of the United States maintain a Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, organized into units. There are a total of 3,275 units: 1,600 Army AJROTC units. 794 Air Force AFJROTC units.

Cadets presenting evidence of successful completion of at least 3 years of NJROTC are entitled to advanced promotion to pay grade E-3 upon initial enlistment in an active or reserve component of the Navy or Air Force and pay grade E-2 in the Army or Marine Corps.
