New STAR applicants must register with New York State directly for the Personal Income Tax Credit /Check Program by telephone at (518) 457-2036 or online. NYS will determine a First-Time/New homeowner's eligibility for the Basic or Enhanced STAR Tax Credit/Check Program.

Basic STAR is for homeowners whose total household income is $500,000 or less. The benefit is estimated to be a $293 tax reduction. Enhanced STAR is for homeowners 65 and older whose total household income for all owners and residents spouses is $93,200 or less. The benefit is estimated to be a $650 tax reduction.

Income documents will be required to establish your eligibility for this program. For 2022 benefits: $92,000 or less. For 2023 benefits: $93,200 or less. The combined income of all owners and their spouses who reside at the property cannot be more than $93,200.

You can receive the STAR credit if you own your home and it's your primary residence and the combined income of the owners and the owners' spouses is $500,000 or less. STAR exemption: a reduction on your school tax bill.

Age eligibility Each of the owners of the property must be 65 years of age or over, unless the owners are: husband and wife, or. siblings (having at least one common parent) and. one of the owners is at least 65.

To be eligible, property owners must be 65 years of age or older with incomes that do not exceed $60,000 a year. For property owned by a husband and wife, only one of them has to be at least 65 years of age. Their combined annual income, however, must not exceed $60,000.
