Transfused units of FFP should be ABO compatible. The dose is usually between 2 and 5 units ing to the results of clotting tests (prothrombin time or thromboelastogram).

Dosage of FFP In major haemorrhage, FFP should be used as part of initial resuscitation in at least a 1 unit: 2 unit ratio with red cells, until results from coagulation monitoring are available.

The volume of one unit of plasma is 200-250 mL. The initial recommended dose for adults is 10 mL/kg, and is 10-15 mL/kg for pediatric patients. Example: 70 kg patient x 10mL/kg = 700 mL (round up to nearest 200mL) = 800 mL = 4 units of plasma.
