3461 – Customs Release – The document we initially submit electronically to Customs, unless they request hard copies of shipping documents to review the shipment. This form is intended to speed up the release of your goods. Customs signs off on your shipment, either releasing it or designating it for exam.

“Entry” is generally a two step process. First, the importer or Customs Broker files basic documentation (or data) to secure release of the goods. This is called the “Entry” (CF 3461). The second step, an “Entry Summary” (CF 7501) is filed to provide any additional paper work (or data) required by CBP and to pay duty.

Definition. A unique number assigned to the entry of an object or group of objects and used to track objects prior to their return or acquisition.

"Entry Summary" refers to the documentation necessary to enable U.S. Customs and Border Protection to assess duties, collect statistics, and determine whether other requirements of law have been met.

Form 7501A - Document/Payment Transmittal. This form is used to reconcile a supplemental payment after an initial Automated Clearinghouse payment.

Entry Number represents the 7-digit number assigned by the filer. The number may be assigned in any manner convenient, provided that the same number is not assigned to more than one CBP entry summary.
