There are certain factors that need to be considered while selecting a hydraulic jack for a certain application. This includes load capacity, clearance, orientation, lift height, automatic/manual operation, and the specific application of the selected hydraulic jack.

In-service Inspection and Maintenance Jacks should be cleaned to remove any dirt or debris paying particular attention to racks, screws, the area around top ram seals etc. Hydraulic oil levels should be checked and the oil topped up or drained and replaced. Moving mechanical components should be lubricated etc.

Always wear safety goggles and protective clothing when using hydraulic equipment. Every jack or ram, whether used individually or in a system, should be completely supported on a solid, firm, non-sliding foundation capable of supporting the load.

For constant or intermittent use at one location, once every 6 months; • For jacks sent out of the shop for special work, inspect the jack when it is sent out and when returned; or • For a jack subjected to abnormal load or shock, inspect the jack immediately before and immediately thereafter.

Never leave a load supported on jacks. Use packing, screwed collars, trestles etc which are capable of withstanding the imposed load without crushing. Never reach under, work or climb on a load supported by jacks. Always keep hands and toes clear.

Before using a hydraulic jack, check its load capacity. This is the maximum amount of weight that the jack can safely lift and raise. Some hydraulic jacks have a load capacity of 1,000 pounds, while others can support up to 7,000 pounds.

Always check the position of the jack after it has started to lift. If it leans, lower the jack and reset. Lift no higher than is necessary. Beware of the jack handle.

Always wear safety goggles and protective clothing when using hydraulic equipment. Every jack or ram, whether used individually or in a system, should be completely supported on a solid, firm, non-sliding foundation capable of supporting the load.

It is performed using a reaction method. The test procedure involves applying an axial load to the top of the test pile with one or more hydraulic jacks. Various forms of instrumentation are installed into the test and anchor piles so that an accurate measurement of the test pile displacement can be obtained.
