This Thought Record (Considered Response) is a cognitive restructuring worksheet which encourages clients to take the time to carefully consider alternative responses to their automatic thoughts – what Beck called 'examining and reality testing automatic thoughts'.

ABC stands for antecedent, behavior, and consequence. The model follows a sequence of events; what happens before, during, and after the target behavior. The antecedent is the situation or event that comes before a behavior. It is commonly called the “trigger.”

The ABC approach to behaviour ABC stands for antecedent (A), behaviour (B) and consequence (C). It is an observation tool that teachers can use to analyse what happened before, during and after a behaviour1.

A: Activating Event (something happens to or around someone) B: Belief (the event causes someone to have a belief, either rational or irrational) C: Consequence (the belief leads to a consequence, with rational beliefs leading to healthy consequences and irrational beliefs leading to unhealthy consequences)

• Using a Thought Diary, identify the 'A' - activating event, 'B' - beliefs, thoughts, or. expectations that went through your mind at the time of the event, and 'C' - consequences, which are your emotional and behavioural responses.

ABC is an acronym for Antecedents, Behavior, Consequences. It is used as a tool for the assessment and formulation of problem behaviors and is useful when clinicians, clients, or carers want to understand the 'active ingredients' for a problem behavior.

Ellis first formulated the ABC model in 1955, holding that activating events (A) contribute to people's emotional and behavioral reactions (C) since they're influenced by people's beliefs about said activating events (B).
