A packing declaration is a letter that tells Australian Customs and the Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service (AQIS) the type of packing material that is used in your goods. It is only required for sea freight shipments.

Document Requirements Your packing declaration should include the following details: The letterhead, name and address of the packer or supplier of the goods; The name of the cargo's vessel and the voyage number; The name of the exporter and importer (for annual declaration);

All documents must identify the date of issue and include the day, month and year. Packing declarations may contain vessel/voyage number, which can be used in lieu of a date of issue.

It is only required for sea freight shipments. There are two types of packing declarations. One packing declaration is for single LCL and FCL shipments and the other is an Annual Packing Declaration. An annual packing declaration can be completed by a supplier and will last for 12 months.
