The Little League Baseball® program includes divisions for all children, ages 4–16. Baseball divisions consist of the following programs: Tee Ball – Ages 4-7. Minor League – Ages 5-11.

First of all, there are a few differences between the rules of play between the two leagues. Pony players are allowed to lead off and steal bases at a younger age than in Little League, giving players more time to develop baserunning and pickoff skills.

In 1938, a man named Carl Stotz hit upon the idea for an organized baseball league for the boys in his hometown of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Carl had no sons of his own, but he often played ball with his young nephews, Jimmy and Major Gehron, and wanted a way to provide an organized program for them.

Little League, international baseball organization for children and teenagers, started in 1939 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, by Carl E. Stotz and brothers Bert and George Bebble. The league originally included boys age 8 to 12.

On June 6, 1939, the first Little League game was played in Williamsport. For more than 75 years, Little League expanded around the globe and now offers opportunities to millions boys and girls of all abilities in more than 80 countries worldwide.

The Little League program itself was founded by Carl E. Stotz, an oil company clerk, in 1939 in Williamsport. In the first Little League Baseball World Series, all the teams except one were from Pennsylvania. At the time, Little League only existed in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
