The arrangement of particles within uranium-235 is somewhat unstable and the nucleus can disintegrate if it is excited by an outside source. When a U-235 nucleus absorbs an extra neutron, it quickly breaks into two parts.

Nuclear fission is the splitting of a large atomic nucleus into smaller nuclei. In a nuclear reactor , a neutron is absorbed into a nucleus (typically uranium-235). This causes the nucleus to become uranium-236, which is violently unstable. The entire nucleus splits into two large fragments called 'daughter nuclei '.

As a result, it splits into two smaller nuclei, krypton-92 and barium-141. The reaction also releases three neutrons and a great deal of energy. It can be represented by this nuclear equation: 92 235 U + 1 neutron → 36 92 K r + 56 141 B a + 3 neutrons + energy.

The heat released in fission can be used to help generate electricity in power plants. Uranium-235 (U-235) is one of the isotopes that fissions easily. During fission, U-235 atoms absorb loose neutrons. This causes U-235 to become unstable and split into two light atoms called fission products.

Answer and Explanation: Uranium-235 decays into thorium-231 through alpha particle emission. As thorium-231 is also an unstable isotope, the atom will continue to decay until it finally reaches a stable state as an atom of lead-207.

In nuclear fission, atoms are split apart, which releases energy. All nuclear power plants use nuclear fission, and most nuclear power plants use uranium atoms. During nuclear fission, a neutron collides with a uranium atom and splits it, releasing a large amount of energy in the form of heat and radiation.

You need to use the neutron gun to fire a neutron at the atom. This changes U-235 to U-236 through the addition of a neutron. U-236 is unstable and quickly fissions into two daughter nuclei. “Unstable” means that the nucleus has too many neutrons to hold itself together.

When uranium-235 is hit with a slow-moving neutron, it absorbs it and temporarily becomes the very unstable uranium-236. This nucleus splits into two medium-mass nuclei while also emitting more neutrons. The mass of the products is less than the mass of the reactants, with the lost mass being converted to energy.
