The Master Guide programme is at the highest level of Adventist Youth Ministries; the purpose of the Master Guide curriculum is to develop youth leadership in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Master Guides are leaders that serve the church in all areas of the Youth Ministry.

This is one of the most current leadership development program for youth ministry in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Master Guide is the foundation for youth ministry leadership, then builds two levels of continuing education that will help keep youth leaders sharp.

The Master Guide is the expert, the advisor, the promoter for Adventurers and Pathfinders. As such, Master Guide is NOT a Pathfinder programme, it is a Youth Ministry Leadership Programme.

The Master Guide program must be completed in a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years. Any requirements fulfilled outside of the three-year limit must be repeated.

Be at least 16 years of age to start the Master Guide curriculum and at least 18 years of age at completion. Be an active staff member of an Adventurer or Pathfinder Club. Complete a Basic Staff Training Course 1 and be involved for a minimum of one year in one of the following ministries: Adventurer Ministries.

Being part of a group can help young people develop important personal and interpersonal skills. These include the ability to think critically and solve problems, and the assumption of personal and group responsibility. It can also help young people gain self-confidence and self-esteem.

The goal of a pathfinder is to gather the most useful, relevant, reliable and authoritative resources on a variety of academic, work-related or general-interest topics.

In 1927 a program for training the adult lay members of the church to minister to the youth of the church was officially approved. This program was named Master Comrade. The very first Master Comrade Investiture took place in 1931. Twenty years later, in 1951, the name was changed from Master Comrade to Master Guide.

DEFINITION: The Master Guide Ministry is a development and mentoring program for youth leadership within the Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving the entire community. PURPOSE: Develop Christ-like leaders to disciple children, youth and young adults.
