The Coast Guard is a military service and is a component of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a component of Coast Guard Forces like the active duty, Reserve, and civilian components.

Directly Benefit Your Community By joining the Auxiliary, you have the ability to make sure recreational watercrafts are safe by providing vessel safety checks, instruct the public on safe boating procedures through public education courses and program visits, and even save the lives of mariners in distress.

A variety of insurance programs benefit the Auxiliarist operating under Coast Guard orders. This includes medical, hospitalization, disability and death benefits should an accident occur in the performance of your duty.

The average age of an auxiliarist is about 63 years of age and an important fact to consider is that there are numerous ladders (NOT Stairs) that must be negotiated many times throughout the day.

Retired status is designed to recognize the continuos significant contributions of those Auxiliarists who no longer desire or who are not able to participate in the authorized activities. Retired status is not a membership category and is not intended for all members.

Service in the Coast Guard Auxiliary is not recognized as active military, naval or air service in the Armed Forces of the United States. Recognition of the appellant's service in the Coast Guard Auxiliary as active duty, for purposes of entitlement to Department of Veterans Affairs benefits, has not been established.

AUXEMS is not a “medical team”, “emergency medical services provider”, or a “first responder organization.” AUXEMS is a support organization for members of the Auxiliary who wish to participate individually in existing authorized EMS augmentation roles.
