Projects associated with Journeys and the highest awards (the Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award) are Take Action projects. When you take action, you work as a team to: Identify a problem.

You must show leadership. And the project must be sustainable and measurable with a global link. Your Gold Award project needs to reflect what you're capable of.

Earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award involves the time it takes to complete a Girl Scout Junior journey and a suggested minimum of 20 hours for each girl to build their team, explore their community, choose and plan their project, put their plan in motion, and spread the word to educate and inspire others.

In contrast to the Journey Take Action projects, which give girls themes on which to base their Journey Take Action project, the Bronze Award Take Action projects have no pre- designed theme. Girls select their own theme, their own design, and execute their Bronze Take Action projects.

Sustainability is encouraged but not mandatory for Girl Scout Juniors working toward their Bronze Awards and Girl Scout Cadettes planning their Silver Award projects. Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors must make sure their projects are sustainable in order to meet the Gold Award's high standards of excellence.

The Bronze Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can earn. To earn it, you and your team will identify a community issue you care about. (Your team is you and other Girl Scout Juniors who are going on this adventure with you, plus your troop/group volunteer.)

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award that can be earned by a Girl Scout Junior in the 4-5th grades. Guidelines for earning the Bronze Award are found in the Handbook section of The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting for Juniors.
