Do Keep it to one or two pages maximum. Use visuals like product design images, technical drawings, or annotated screenshots. Ensure the layout is sequential and sensible. Make sure your quick guide can provide necessary information on its own, and users don't have to read a manual to understand it.

Quick reference guides shorten complex user manuals into one or two pages, providing users with a go-to resource for basic tasks and critical concepts. Think of them as cheat sheets for your product or service, helping end-users save time and frustration.

Here are just the main steps and concepts to understand when creating a quick reference guide: Step 1: You Need to Understand Your Audience. ... Step 2: You Need to Only Include Essential Information. ... Step 3: You Need Visuals. ... Step 4: You Need to Test, Review, and Distribute.

A quick reference guide is a short document summarizing essential information about a product. These guides are mostly 1-2 pages long and guide users to perform specific tasks using the product. Unlike a lengthy product manual, a quick reference guide offers to-the-point information to provide more nuanced answers.

Short and crisp guides are always easier to consume when compared to a comprehensive product manual. A quick reference guide condenses all the essential information regarding how to use a product into tiny bite-sized sections, making it easier for readers to understand core processes.

A quick reference guide (QRG) is a document that provides your end-users with a quick way to get information. It is a condensed version of instructions that employees can use to do something. It prompts employees on what steps to take to complete a task.

Affectionately known as “cheat sheets”, they are a useful tool for someone who needs to know just enough to get a job done without reading a hefty user manual.

Do Keep it as short as possible. One to two pages is best. Use visuals like annotated screenshots, icons, product or UX images, etc. Use a sensible, easy-to-follow layout, with clear headings and subheadings as needed. Know your audience and what they need. Make it stand on its own.

A reference card or reference sheet (or quick reference card) or crib sheet is a concise bundling of condensed notes about a specific topic, such as mathematical formulas to calculate area/volume, or common syntactic rules and idioms of a particular computer platform, application program, or formal language.

A Quick Reference Guide is a short piece of technical documentation (usually 1-2 pages) that briefly describes how to use a product. Unlike a full-length Owner's Manual, a Quick Reference Guide likely won't include information regarding every small detail about a product.
