Take Your Child to Work Day: History The first national observance of Take Our Daughters to Work Day took place on April 22, 1993, ing to the Ms. Foundation for Women. By 2003, boys were formally integrated into the event – changing the name to Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day.

NATIONAL TAKE OUR DAUGHTERS AND SONS TO WORK DAY HISTORY Gloria Steinem and the MS Foundation for Women founded National Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day in 1993.

The effect of the day was explosive and so it was then expanded in 2003 to include boys. Most companies agreed to accommodate any child, and the day was renamed to ''Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day'' and now occurs every fourth Thursday in April every year.

History of Take Our Kids To Work Day This day is also known as Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day. Before, Take Our Kids to Work Day was mostly focused on young girls. This educational program was launched by Ms. Foundation for Women in 1993.

We thought it would just be a little day in New York [until] Gloria [Steinem] stopped by the foundation on her way to talk to Parade magazine, and we told her about “Take Our Daughters to Work Day,” and then she told Parade, and that's how [the idea] got out into the world ahead of schedule.

Though we would generally advise against allowing employees to bring their children to work, you may find that it is unavoidable and affecting employee attendance and productivity. Hence, you may agree to let them bring their child onto the premises under a strict policy but the above advice should be taken on board.

"Our answer to that was that the boys have it every day. This was one day for the girls to experience what work life is like and to be focused on as girls." In 2003, before Gould became president and CEO of the organization, the event was changed to Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
