Overview. Middle Tennessee State University is a public institution that was founded in 1911. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 17,892 (fall 2021), its setting is city, and the campus size is 550 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar.

A minimum of 12 hours per semester is required to remain a full-time student; maximum enrollment is 18 hours per semester. A reasonable class load is between 15 and 18 hours, but strong consideration should be taken under advisement for travel time, job, and family commitments.

To graduate from MTSU with a bachelor's degree, a student must meet the following requirements. Students must complete a minimum of 120 semester hours with a 2.00 grade point average. (Some programs may require more than 120 hours.)

You may declare your major via the MTSU web site (http://.mtsu.edu/registration/change-major.php). On this page you will find a link for "Change of Major/Program". Complete the online form and submit.

Official ACT report can be requested by writing to American College Testing Program, Box 414, Iowa City, Iowa 52240. Please ask them to send it directly to MTSU, Code #3994. ACT scores on official high school transcripts are acceptable, as are SAT scores, Code #1466. Request high school to forward official transcript.

120 Total Credit Requirement The Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor in General Studies degrees require students to complete a minimum of 120 credits (124 for B.S. Chem.).

Semester Hour Load of Student Full-time status for students holding graduate assistantships is six (6) graduate semester hours.

Classification of Students No student may be classified as a sophomore until after earn- ing at least 30 semester hours. No student may be classified as a junior until after earning at least 60 hours. No student may be classified as a senior until after earning at least 90 hours.
