Get Learn To Swim Level 2 Checklist

Level 4 & 5 - usually 6 - 12 years old Swim a “good” freestyle with side breathing a full lap (2 lengths) without stopping.

Primary Skills. Swimmers should be able to propel 4-6 feet on their front without an aid. They continue to learn floating and kicking on front and back; to submerge with eyes open. They begin to master rhythmic breathing and develop bilateral breathing.

By completing the Learn to Swim Stage 2 Award, swimmers will be able to: Jump in from poolside safely. Blow bubbles a minimum of three times rhythmically, with nose and mouth submerged. Move from a flat floating position on the back and return to standing without support.

Stage 8-10 For children aged 5 years+ who have completed stages 1-7. Once the swimmer has mastered the core range of skills required they may choose to take part in different water based activities. These include: Stage 8 - pre-swimming club level, diving, rookie lifeguard, mini water polo and synchronized swimming.

Level 5: Beginning Strokes (Average ages 5 years to 8 years) Prerequisite: Child should be very comfortable in water they cannot touch the bottom in. Child should have also been introduced to Freestyle with the arms and the kicks.

It's never too late to learn how to swim. If you never had the opportunity as a child, you can easily how to learn swimming as an adult. At first, being in the water may feel strange, unfamiliar, and even a little worrying.

Stage 6: (Optimum Age; 8-9yrs) The more advanced stages require more swimming, combining the control of technique and the demands of stamina as they swim more than 500m per lesson. Swimmers are usually required to swim twice a week and commitment to sessions is expected for them to develop to their full potential.
