Here's what you'll need to get it up in the air first.

It's definitely worth it, you cant beat the time on station, the raw amount of weaponry you can carry, or the cool factor. It's not for people who want to fly fast or dogfight, but if you want to take out loads of targets it's perfect.

The A-10C II is a full fidelity module. Meaning it's simulated to the highest of standards, uses the Professional Flight Model and has a clickable cockpit. Systems and avionics are as close to the real thing as possible. The A-10A is a low fidelity module.

For the A-10C I would say about 20 hours. Around there anyway, maybe it will only take you 10 hours until you get a rough idea, and with 20 you will be more proficient. You will still learn things after 20 hours though and your skills will become more proficient.

Long answer: the A10C is probably the most complete and fun module for a modern aircraft which is not in EA for DCS. It will give you lots of challenges and requires some manual studying before you'll be able to fully enjoy it but trust me it is totally worth it!

The A-10A is the forerunner of the A-10C and has much in common with the A-10C. Although the A-10A lacks the glass cockpit some of sensors and weapons of the A-10C, it is more simple aircraft to operate.

It's possible to play mouse and keyboard on DCS, yes. Hell, I get a good kick out of blasting other players out of the skies using mouse and keyboard while flying around in the F-15C.

Yes, it's playable. But it's not commonly considered enjoyable. If you happen to have a console controller lying around, plug that in and give it a shot. It'll be far better than keyboard/mouse and will hold you over until you can save up for a proper HOTAS.
