The sliding screw plate (dynamic compression screw, dynamic hip screw) may be used to treat intertrochanteric fractures as well as other injuries. This device consists of a lag screw and a side plate with a barrel.

DCS (Dynamic Condylar Screw Plate) Uses The DCS Plate is indicated for the following fractures of the proximal distal: Intercondylar fractures. Supracondylar fractures. Unicondylar fractures.

DCS, initially designed for fixation of distal femoral fractures, have also been applied to fix proximal femoral fractures in recent years. DHS is used as “golden standard” for intertrochanteric fractures treatment. The main difference between these 2 implants is the angle of the lag screw with respect to the plate.

The dynamic condylar screw is a safe and reliable implant for the management of subtrochanteric fractures with predictable results when principles of open reduction and internal fixation, biological reduction and bone grafting are followed as indicated.

The DHS is based on tension band principle and allows the screw to slide within the barrel to enable compression of the fracture when the patient begins to bear weight. This principle only works in the presence of intact medial wall and so cannot be successful in a reverse oblique fracture of the proximal femur.

Introduction: the dynamic condylar screw (DCS) plate is an angular stable fixation (95°) system for distal femur fractures that allows for the ability to apply compression across the femoral condyles.
