Tier 4 – Members who joined NYCERS between July 27, 1976 and March 31, 2012 except Correction Officers and DA Investigators. Tier 6 – Members who joined NYCERS on or after April 1, 2012 except Correction Force and certain Sanitation Force and DA Investigators.

As a Tier 3 member, you will have your monthly annuity calculated using the average of your highest five annual salaries (based on creditable compensation) and ing to the standard annuity benefit formula in effect when you retire.

Tier 6 members retiring prior to age 63 will, without exception, receive a reduced benefit. Before any reductions, a Tier 6 member with more than 20 years of service will receive a pension of 35% of final average salary plus 2% for every year beyond 20 years. There is no maximum Tier 6 pension.

Tier 6: You receive 1.67% per year of service credit if you have less than 20 years of service, 1.75% per year if you have 20 years, and 35% plus 2% per year for service beyond 20 years. An age factor applies if you retire before 63.

Tier 4 – Members who joined NYCERS between July 27, 1976 and March 31, 2012 except Correction Officers and DA Investigators. Tier 6 – Members who joined NYCERS on or after April 1, 2012 except Correction Force and certain Sanitation Force and DA Investigators.

Tier 4 members are eligible to collect a pension, or vested in the retirement system, after achieving 5 years of service credit and are required to contribute 3 percent of their salaries until they have completed 10 years of service credit.
