Blood-Type Test The IDENTI GENE blood-type paternity test shows how ABO blood-typing and inherited-trait theory can be used to assist with answering paternity questions. With this test you enter blood types of the mother, child, and alleged father to determine if paternity is possible.

The parents can acknowledge paternity by signing the Health Analytics & Vital Records Affidavit of Paternity, VS-06-5376 form that results in the father being listed on the child's birth certificate. This is often done at the hospital when the child is born.

The child support agency or a court can order a paternity test to determine if there's a genetic match between the father, mother and child. The mother or legal guardian also can request the service. The genetic test results can establish legal paternity and can exclude a man who is not the biological father.

There are two equally accurate ways to test for paternity: Blood tests: The potential father and child give blood samples at a medical office. The facility sends the samples to a lab for analysis. Cheek swabs: The potential father and child swab the inside of their cheeks for buccal (cheek) cells.

Alaska Law requires that that husband of the mother be listed on the birth certificate as the legal father of the child, even if he is not the biological father. You and the mother can acknowledge paternity by filling out an Affidavit of Paternity and filing it with the Bureau of Vital Statistics.

The CSSD can disestablish paternity by an administrative process. If a court never entered an order establishing paternity, the man never admitted he was the father, and genetic tests never confirmed the man's paternity, then that man can ask CSSD to disestablish his paternity. But there is a three year time limit.
