Civil Case Cover Sheet (CM-010) Tells the court some basic information about a case being filed. Filed at the beginning of all civil cases except family law cases.

They are public. A conviction record shows that a jury or judge accepted the allegation as true beyond a reasonable doubt. Criminal case restraining orders, though public, are still less damaging than a record of conviction.

You will need to know the names of the parties or the court file number to pull up the court files online. The public can also access court documents from public access computer terminals at any Minnesota district (county) courthouse or at the Minnesota State Law Library.

The order can last for up to two years, but you may petition to have it extended if you need further protection once the order expires.

This rule formalizes the requirement to provide information about all parties when an action is filed. Its need derives from the commencement of actions by service and the fact that many pleadings are routinely not filed.

Civil actions (except family cases) need to be filed with the court within one year after service of the summons and complaint on the defendant. See Rule 5.04 of the MN Rules of Civil Procedure.

An HRO can be issued without notice to the alleged harassing party, but once they receive notice a hearing is set so that they have the opportunity to dispute the order. An Order for Protection (OFP), on the other hand, deals specifically with domestic violence.

Restraining orders are court orders to protect you from someone else. They are public records, but their contents are confidential.
