Wisconsin allows a credit for the net income tax you pay to other states on income that is taxed by both Wisconsin and the other state. In order for an individual, estate, or trust to claim this credit, you must: File an income tax return with the other state to determine the amount of net tax paid to that state.

Wisconsin has reciprocal agreements with Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan. If you are a Wisconsin resident working in one of these states, and your employer withheld the other state's income tax, you must file for a refund from that state.

Schedule OS is used by individuals, estates, and trusts to compute the credit for net income tax paid to another state. For additional information on this credit, get Publication 125, Credit for Tax Paid to Another State, from any department office or our website at revenue.wi.gov.

You can deduct any estimated taxes paid to state or local governments and any prior year's state or local income tax as long as they were paid during the tax year. Generally, you can take either a deduction or a tax credit for foreign income taxes, but not for taxes paid on income that is excluded from U.S. tax.
