March 1, 2023, is the deadline for Florida homestead exemption applications for qualifying residences owned and occupied on the January 1 tax day. Florida property appraisers generally enable applications to be made online.

Eligible resident veterans with a VA certified service-connected disability of 10 percent or greater shall be entitled to a $5,000 property tax exemption.

A person must have legal title or beneficial title in equity to the property and meet eligibility requirements by January 1 to be considered for an exemption in the tax year the application was filed. March 1 of the application tax year is the deadline to file a timely application.

Senior Exemption Information The property must qualify for a homestead exemption. At least one homeowner must be 65 years old as of January 1.

To qualify for a Homestead Exemption, you must own the property and it must be your permanent residence "to the exclusion of all others" as of January 1st of the year you are seeking the homestead exemption. Once you receive the Homestead Exemption, you do not have to re-apply.

Florida law requires a homeowner to own and occupy the residence as of January 1 of the year in which the application is made, although the application may be filed as late as March 1. The forms are available from each County's Property Appraiser's Office and may also be found on the internet.
