Volunteers at DV programs are never mandated reporters, this includes volunteers whose regular, paid work does make them mandated reporters. For instance, if a licensed social worker volunteers on a DV hotline, she cannot report suspected child abuse she learns of while working as a volunteer on the hotline.

Training completed before July 1, 2019, is valid for five years, and training completed on or after July 1, 2019, is valid for three years.

Any LPN, RN, or ARNP who has contact with children and/or dependent adults in the course of their work are considered to be mandatory reporters.

Although anyone can report child and dependent adult abuse and are encouraged to do so, mandatory reporters are required by law to make a report of suspected abuse within 24 hours of becoming aware of the concern(s). If a child or dependent adult is in imminent danger, CALL 911 immediately.

Maintains that every mandatory reporter must complete 2 hours of training within six months of employment or self-employment, unless otherwise specified by federal regulations, and requires one hour of additional training every 3 years.
