My child is over 18, why do I still have to pay child support? Alaska Law states that a parent must pay child support until a child is 19 years old if they are going to high school, and are still living with (and being supported by) the other parent.

I, ______________________, mother of ___________________, do voluntarily and willingly waive the child support arrears due to me by my child/ren's father, ________________________, for the amount of $_________________ or whatever is the current outstanding balance due to me.

When the court issues a parenting plan or a custody and visitation order, it must issue a child support order based on Civil Rule 90.3. The parents cannot agree to waive child support or to have a specific amount that is lower than the calculated amount.

Is there a limit to withholding? In Alaska, the withholding limit for child support is 40% of net income or 50% if Medical Support is required. Net income is gross wages minus federal income taxes, Social Security, Medicare, and other mandatory deductions.

The parent can be charged with a felony if the past-due child support exceeds $5,000, or is more than one year delinquent.

Alaska. The state offers debt forgiveness for noncustodial parents who have accrued at least $1,500 in state-owed child support arrears and meets other eligibility criteria. If the parent complies with the arrears forgiveness agreement, state-owed debt will be forgiven in stages over a 6-year period.

The parent can be charged with a felony if the past-due child support exceeds $5,000, or is more than one year delinquent. In order to convict a parent, the U.S. Attorney's Office must prove in court that the parent was financially able to meet the child support obligation at the time the payment was due.

NO, there is no statute of limitations on the collection of child support in Alaska. Additionally, if you miss child support payments, interest will accrue at a rate of 6% each year.

Child support is not owed to the child, but to the custodian. The person with whom you are living could possibly seek child support from your parents. The past-due child support debt is a part of the deceased custodian's estate.
