In turn, the EPCRA requires SLTT governments to use this information to prepare for and protect their communities from relevant risks.

Examples include anhydrous ammonia, sulfuric acid, formaldehyde, and hydrogen peroxide (if the concentration is over 52%).

Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensations, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) and California law require responsible parties to report hazardous material releases if certain criteria is met.

EPCRA requires the establishment of State Emergency Response Commissions (SERCs) and Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPCs) which receive and disseminate to the public and local communities information from regulated entities about hazardous chemicals present at their facilities.

The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), authorized by Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA Title III), was passed in 1986 in response to concerns regarding the environmental and safety hazards posed by the storage and handling of toxic chemicals.

EPCRA has four major provisions: Emergency planning (sections 301-303), • Emergency release notification (section 304), • Hazardous chemical storage reporting requirements (sections 311-312), and • Toxic chemical release inventory (section 313).
