Uniform Player Contract or “Player Contract” or “Contract” means the standard form of written agreement between a person and a Team required for use in the NBA by Article II, pursuant to which such person is employed by such Team as a professional basketball player.

Player contracts are fundamentally limited duration employment contracts where the sports team agrees to pay the player to train for and play a certain number of games in a season in exchange for the player's unique skillset.

A contract between a player and a club may therefore only be terminated on expiry of the contract or by mutual agreement. Unilateral termination of a contract without just cause, especially during the so-called protected period, is to be vehemently discouraged.

Standard NBA Contract means a Contract other than a Two- Way Contract.

What is a Football (Soccer) Contract? A football (soccer) contract is an agreement between a player and a club that sets out the terms of the player's employment. The contract will specify things like the length of the contract, the player's salary, and any bonuses or benefits that they are entitled to.

NFL rookie contracts are generally four years long. However, players who were selected in the first round of the NFL Draft have a team option to be extended for a fifth year.

Standard Player Contracts provide guarantees on contractual obligations, and also creates a level playing field between clubs and competitions which minimises legal disputes.
