In addition to the coursework listed above, Texas LPC licensure also requires the completion of a supervised practicum experience, sometimes referred to as an internship. The practicum should consist of at least 300 hours, with a minimum of 100 hours of direct client contact.

How Many Hours of Supervision do LPC Associates Need? LPC Associates in the state of Texas are required to document a total of 3,000 hours before they are able to upgrade to LPC status (what many refer to as fully licensed). Half of these hours, 1,500, must be direct client contact hours.

If you have previously started or completed applications, you may check their status. Texas Administrative Code. (a) All applicants for LPC licensure must complete supervised experience acceptable to the Council of 3,000 clock-hours under a Council-approved supervisor.

LPCs in Texas need to renew their license biennially: once every two years. At least 30 days prior to the renewal date, you will receive a postcard informing you that your license requires renewal. You can renew the license online up to 60 days before expiry.

Any LPC must complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) in each licensing period. All 24 hours can be taken online, but they must be from accepted courses and providers. The Texas LPC renewal board will accept courses from providers that have been approved by the NBCC, APA, and ASWB.

A licensee who is on active or inactive status may retire the license by notifying the Council in writing prior to the renewal date for the license. A licensee with a delinquent status may also retire the license by notifying the Council in writing prior to the license expiring.

Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors LPCs are required to obtain a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education during each renewal period they hold a license. Effective January 1, 2024, at least half of the 24 hours must be obtained from a provider listed in 681.140(f).
