In a bit of sad, yet unsurprising news, USPS announced this week that it's shutting down its Informed Delivery apps for Android and iOS.

Check the Current Status. Before you begin your search, if your package or mail has tracking, check USPS Tracking® to see its current status. Informed Delivery provides a digital preview of your incoming mail. There may be occasions where a mail item may be delayed in reaching its destination.

Sometimes, an address will not validate because the address is marked as "vacant" by the USPS. Additionally, a new address, an unregistered address, or one located within a postal code primarily serviced by PO boxes, would all fail to validate.

If you already have a USPS.com® account: Go to your account preferences, scroll to the Informed Delivery section, and opt in to Informed Delivery. If you do not have a USPS.com account: Go to the Informed Delivery page and click the sign up link. Enter your address to check if it's eligible for Informed Delivery.

By signing up for Informed Delivery with the US Postal Service you can see what is coming to you before it arrives. Once enrolled, you will receive an email each morning with photos of the envelopes due to hit your mailbox that day. These images will show the front of each piece of mail, including the return address.

Informed Delivery® provides notifications for mailpieces arriving soon - not necessarily mailpieces arriving that same day. Pieces can be delayed in getting to your mail carrier. Or, unfortunately, a mailpiece could be misdelivered. We ask that you allow several days for delivery after receiving the notification.

This may be because your parcel's label has got smudged or damaged, or because it was not written correctly in the first place. Although USPS is good at overcoming many issues with labels, they are not able to do this if something fundamental is missing.

Informed Delivery is a free service from USPS that shows you preview images of incoming mail, as well as status updates about your incoming and outbound packages. You can see those notifications in a morning Daily Digest email, or at any time via the dashboard from your phone, computer, or the USPS Mobile® app.

If the package doesn't arrive, you can file a Missing Mail search request. To do that, you need the mailer's address and the recipient's address, the date of mailing, and a description of the package. The best way to track a package without tracking number is by setting up a USPS Informed Delivery Account.
