Cadets and midshipmen in the ROTC programs generally hold training ranks equivalent to their branch's enlisted ranks during their first three years of training and officer-equivalent ranks during their senior year, except in the Air Force where they hold officer-equivalent rank during their junior and senior years.

Scholarship winners must serve for four years; non-scholarship Cadets who enroll in the ROTC Advanced Course must serve for three years. All who graduate and complete ROTC training are commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the U.S. Army.

Non-contracted Cadets have no uniform requirements.

Contracted. Contracted students are those who have entered a contract and committed to complete the Basic and Advanced Courses of ROTC. Contracted students then enter the Army as an officer upon graduation, either on Active or Reserve duty.

| PRINCIPAL PURPOSE: To specify the contractual agreements and obligations and to document contracting in the Army Senior Reserve Officers' Training Corps Nonscholarship Program.

Are contracted cadets military members? Qualified, contracted cadets (those in the Professional Officer Course or who have accepted a scholarship) are enlisted into the Obligated Reserve Section (ORS) of the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) and are not members of the active duty military.

A: Upon contracting into the ROTC program (after MIL 301 or any ROTC tuition scholarships), it is an 8-year commitment on Active Duty or Reserve Component (National Guard or Reserves).

An Army Cadet enlists for a Cadetship to become an Officer in the Defence Forces. After successfully completing the Cadet Training Course in the Cadet School, Military College, an Army Cadet is commissioned into the Officer Ranks of the Army as a Second Lieutenant (2/Lt) or Lieutenant (Lt).
