Details. North Carolina Form E-595E, Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement Certificate of Exemption, is to be used for purchases for resale or other exempt purchases.

Exemption certificates are a way for a business or organization to attest that you are a tax exempt entity, or that you are purchasing an item with the intent to use it in a way that has been deemed exempt from tax.

Most state sales tax exemption certificates do not expire and the seller is required to maintain exemption certificates for as long as sales continue to be made to the purchaser and sales tax is not collected. Exemption certificates are not required for items that are not taxable by statute.

Businesses can apply for certificates that exempt them from paying sales tax on certain items. These certificates are issued by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (DTF). Businesses complete the certificate, and provide it to the vendor. The vendor keeps the certificate and makes a sale without tax.

If you sell items to a business with a resale certificate, do not collect sales tax. Instead, that business will collect sales tax from its customers. Sales tax exemption certificates legally let buyers get out of paying sales tax.

Sales tax exemption certificates are required whenever a seller makes a sale of taxable goods or services, and does not collect sales tax in a jurisdiction, in which they are required to. The certificate is issued by a purchaser to make tax-free purchases that would normally be subject to sales tax.

You must keep the exemption certificate for at least three years from the due date of the sales tax return on which the last sale using the exemption certificate was reported.

First, you must be registered for your North Carolina sales tax permit (remember, this means you'll need to collect sales tax from your North Carolina customers). Then, you'll just need to print out form E-595E Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement Certificate of Exemption and do the following: Add your business name.

Seller's name. Seller's address. Buyer's name. Buyer's address. Classification of buyer: wholesaler, retailer, manufacturer, seller (California), lessor, other. Description of business.
