Affirmative marketing consists of actions to provide information and otherwise attract eligible persons to available housing without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, familial status (persons with children under 18 years of age, including pregnant women), or disability.

An AFHMP is a marketing and outreach plan that housing providers use to strategize how they will target outreach to minority groups in their local community that are least likely to apply for housing opportunities.

The purpose of the Affirmative Fair Housing Marketing Plan (“AFHMP”) is to reduce segregation and encourage integration in housing by promoting housing choice and opportunities regardless of one's protected characteristics under federal and state fair housing laws.

AFHM Plans must be reviewed at least every five years or when the local Community Development jurisdiction's Consolidated Plan is updated, or when there are significant changes in the demographics of the project or the local housing market area.
