Titling is when the military's criminal investigation elements (commonly referred to by their acronyms NCIS, OSI, and CID) name an individual as a subject in their criminal investigation reports. Titling is not a judicial decision.

CID Special Agents are responsible for conducting investigations and for enforcing military and federal statutes. CID Special Agents investigate various felony- level crimes including homicide, sexual assault, cyber crime, white-collar crime, and drug-trafficking, etc.

The general rule of thumb is that if it is considered to be a felony level offense under the UCMJ, CID is going to investigate. They also investigate all death investigations, where sometimes there's not even a hint of a homicide or a wrongful death.

They conduct a wide variety of investigations to include deaths, sexual assault, armed robbery, procurement fraud, computer crimes, counter-drug operations and war crimes.

You'll handle felony-level cases where you will process crime scenes, collect evidence, conduct interviews and interrogations, provide forensic lab support, and ensure the security of Army personnel and property.

More commonly, we see investigations last anywhere from about six months to 12 months is fairly common in terms of how long they have. There is no set time. There is no limitation. Unfortunately in most, if not all cases, there is no (what we call) there is no right to a speedy investigation.

CID Special Agents primarily investigate felony-level crime across the Army and provide investigative support to field commanders. The division is a separate military investigative force with investigative autonomy; CID special agents, both military and civilian, report through the CID chain of command to the USACID Director, who reports directly to the Under Secretary of the Army and the Secretary of the Army.

To be considered for the program, applicants must have a bachelor's degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Computer Science, Computer Forensics, Digital Forensics, Legal Studies, Accounting, Finance, Psychology or Biology.
