How much does it cost to file Form 990-N? Form 990-N can be filed for free at IRS.gov. There is no paper form.

You cannot file Form 990-N until after your nonprofit's tax year ends. If your 990-N is late, the IRS will send a reminder notice to the nonprofit's last address in its records.

Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-PF must be filed by the 15th day of the 5th month after the end of your organization's accounting period. Thus, for a calendar year taxpayer, Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-PF is due May 15 of the following year.

If an organization fails to file a required Form 990 by the due date (including any extensions), it must pay a penalty of $20 per day for each day the return is late. The penalty generally may not exceed the lesser of $10,000 or 5% of the organization's gross receipts.
