Foreign direct investment (FDI) into South Africa grew by 446% to $7.1 billion in 2018. This after sharp declines in FDI since 2014. President Cyril Ramaphosa aims to attract $100 billion in FDI by 2023.

They agreed that Africa is the region with the fastest economic growth rates and the highest return on investment (ROI), and as the continent continually makes improved strides in political reform, macroeconomic stability and social development, these trends are likely to improve.

Based on data through 2017, France is the largest investor in Africa, although its stock of investment has remained largely unchanged since 2013, followed by the Netherlands, the United States, the United Kingdom and China.
