New education policy expands age group 6-14 years of mandatory schooling to 3-18 years of schooling. As per article 21A of Indian constitution it provide free and compulsory education to all children at the age of 6-14 years in such a manner as the state may by law determines.

Universal, free, and compulsory education will now be made available from age 3 onwards (Anganwadis/Pre-School) up till Grade 12 (18 years) instead of the existing pattern of ages 6 -14, thereby extending the Right to Education to a greater number.

The new NEP is based on four pillars which are Access, Equity, Quality, and Accountability. In this new policy, there will be a 5+3+3+4 structure which comprises 12 years of school and 3 years of Anganwadi/ pre-school replacing the old 10+2 structure.

The four key areas of reform include: Development of rigorous standards and better assessments. Adoption of better data systems to provide schools, teachers, and parents with information about student progress. Support for teachers and school leaders to become more effective.
