A lap splice is the predominant method used for splicing reinforcing bars. Bars may be spaced apart or in contact. For lap splices, contact splices are preferred for the practical reason that, when wired together, they are more easily secured against displacement during concrete placement.

The method used to join the reinforcement bars, so that the force is transferred effectively from one bar to the other is called splicing. The method involves joining the bars together and overlapping them, but leaving at least two bar diameters between the bars.

To hold and secure the rebar in place, they should be tied together using wires. Some of the ways of tying are snap tie (for rebar in flat horizontal position), wrap and snap tie (vertical wall reinforcement), saddle tie (column corner bars & stirrups to beam corner bars), and figure-eight tie (for heavy mats).

Rebar (short for reinforcing bar) is a steel rod that is used to strengthen concrete. The rods come in various lengths and thicknesses and usually have ridges or bumps so they bond well with the concrete.

Bar splicing can be done in three ways: Lap Splice. Mechanical Splice. Welded Splice.

Placing rebar Rebar cages are connected either by spot welding, tying steel wire or with mechanical connections. Mechanical connections, also known as 'couplers' or 'splices', are an effective means of reducing rebar congestion in highly-reinforced areas for cast-in-place concrete construction.

Rebar (short for reinforcing bar), known when massed as reinforcing steel or reinforcement steel, is a steel bar used as a tension device in reinforced concrete and reinforced masonry structures to strengthen and aid the concrete under tension. Concrete is strong under compression, but has low tensile strength.

Reinforcement anchorages or splices that are fixed into already cured concrete by Hilti HIT injection adhesives in drilled holes are called “Post-installed rebar connections” as opposed to normal, so called “cast-in” reinforcement.
