Click anywhere inside any footnote in the document. Press Ctrl+A to select all footnotes, but only footnotes (Figure B). Press F9 to update any fields in all the selected footnotes and click Yes to see the updated fields, as shown in Figure C.

The footnote contains the number of the citation followed by a period and then the citation itself. The citation always includes the author's name and the title of the text, and it always ends with a period. Full notes also include all the relevant publication information in parentheses (which varies by source type).

Method 2: Show the Note Pane To begin with, click “View” tab. Then choose “Draft” view. Next click “References” tab. And then click “Show Notes” option in “Footnotes” group. Now there shall be a note pane at the bottom of the screen whose size you can adjust. Make sure you select “All Footnotes”.

When you go to Insert > Footnote, a citation number will be placed in the body of your document where you have the cursor. The number will also appear in the footer so you can type the citation's content beside it. A footnotes entered this way will only appear on that page -- it won't show up on other pages.

You can set the “Keep lines together” property for a given footnote paragraph or for the Footnote Text style, and this will ensure that footnotes are not broken because the text reference and the entire note will be carried to the next page.

To keep the footnote together in Word: Press Ctrl+Shift+S to Apply Styles. Footnote Text. Click Modify. Click Format. Select Paragraph. Under Line and Page Breaks tab. Check box by Keep lines together. Click OK.

Click the reference number or mark in the body of the text or click Insert > Show Footnotes(for endnotes, click Insert > Show Endnotes).

First I suggest you click Expansion arrow of Footnotes group > choose "Below text" for Footnotes > Apply. Then chose the last line of main text > Right click, select Paragraph > In the Paragraph dialog box, click the Indents and Spacing tab, and make sure that Spacing After is set to zero.

Footnotes are notes placed at the bottom of the page in a piece of academic writing and indicated in the text with superscript numbers (or sometimes letters or other symbols). You can insert footnotes automatically in Word or Google Docs. They're used to provide: Citations in certain styles.
