At an informal protest, you simply need to present data on your home to your appraisal district. In most cases, you can simply visit your appraisal district office and wait to meet with an appraiser. The number one recommendation for winning an informal protest is simple – be kind.

A 10 percent to 50 percent penalty may be imposed if a rendition is filed late, incomplete or not at all. Property owners who need more time to file their renditions may file a written request with the chief appraiser on or before the rendition deadline to receive an automatic extension.

A rendition is a report that lists all the taxable property you owned or controlled on Jan. 1 of this year. Property includes inventory and equipment used by a business. Owners do not have to render exempt property, such as church property or an agriculture producer's equipment used for farming.

You may apply to the appraisal district the year you become age 65 or qualify for disability. If your application is approved, you will receive the exemption for the entire year in which you become age 65 or disabled and for subsequent years as long as you own a qualified residence homestead.

Section 22.01 - Rendition Generally (a) Except as provided by Chapter 24, a person shall render for taxation all tangible personal property used for the production of income that the person owns or that the person manages and controls as a fiduciary on January 1.

What is a Rendition? Section 22 of the Tax Code requires every owner of business personal property used or located in Texas to report that property annually. The report is called a rendition. The rendition must be filed with the chief appraiser of the appraisal district in which the property is located.

A rendition is simply a form that provides the District with the description, location, cost, and acquisition dates for personal property that you own. The District uses the information to help estimate the market value of your property for taxation purposes.

Write a brief description of the business and the square feet occupied. Fill in the business start date, sales tax permit number, and check any boxes that apply. If sold, please fill in the New Owners name. If moved, please fill in the new location address.
