A typical gas turbine engine consists of: An air inlet, Compressor section, Combustion section, Turbine section, Exhaust section, Accessory section, and. The systems necessary for starting, lubrication, fuel supply, and auxiliary purposes, such as anti-icing, cooling, and pressurization.

Gas turbines are comprised of three primary sections mounted on the same shaft: the compressor, the combustion chamber (or combustor) and the turbine. The compressor can be either axial flow or centrifugal flow.

Turbine exhaust is typically about 15 percent oxygen. Since very little of the available oxygen in the turbine air flow is used in the combustion process, the oxygen content in the gas turbine exhaust permits supplementary fuel firing ahead of the HRSG to increase steam production relative to an unfired unit.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions are all produced during natural gas and distillate oil combustion in gas turbines. Nearly all of the fuel carbon is converted to CO2 during the combustion process.

Gas turbines are composed of three main components: compressor, combustor, and turbine.
