Regularisation refers to the process of certifying building works that have been carried out without Building Regulations approval. The regularisation process enables people to submit a retrospective application relating to the previously unauthorised works.

Regularisation is a way for local authorities to check and approve unauthorised building work.

A Building Notice is a written notice that you intend to carry out building work and does not normally mean that you have to submit detailed drawings. More information may sometimes be requested by the Building Control Surveyor to ensure that your work is in line with the regulations.

If you apply for a Regularisation Certificate in respect of unauthorised work, you must pay a Regularisation Charge, which is non-refundable, to cover the cost of assessing your application and all inspections.
