Bulk Current Injection (BCI) Purpose and Description of Test. Bulk Current Injection (BCI) is a method of assessing the immunity of the DUT (and associated PCB and external components) to electromagnetic fields that are coupled onto the communications line wiring harnesses.

Bulk current injection probes, also called BCI probes, are circular windowed devices that inductively couple RF current onto wires or cable bundles used in immunity testing. BCI probes are generally categorized by transfer impedance, frequency range, power handling, as well as compliance to a particular standard.

Injection Current Probes are used to inductively couple large RF currents into conductors passing through their aperture. The conductors are signal, control and power circuits of equipment under test for conducted susceptibility or immunity.

A current probe acts as a single turn primary, multiple turn secondary transformer, placing low series impedance in the probed power line or signal lead while capable of driving a usable signal into a 50ohm receiver.
