The applicant has been convicted of any crime that raises concerns regarding the child's safety and well-being. The applicant has a child abuse registry record of sustained or founded child abuse or neglect. The applicant or any other person living in the household is listed on the sex offender registry.

The state of California pays foster parents an average of $1000 to $2,609 per month to help with the expenses from taking care of the child. It is one of the highest-paying states in the nation in this regard. This figure is for each child you take into your home.

The applicant(s) must attend an orientation, submit an application packet, followed by pre-approval training, and become certified in CPR and first aid. The RFA process will include a comprehensive psychosocial assessment and a home safety inspection.

A foster family agency (FFA) is defined as any organization engaged in the recruiting, certifying, and training of, and providing professional support to, foster parents, or in finding homes for placement of children for temporary or permanent care who require that level of care as an alternative to a group home.

Prospective Resource Families are required to attend 12 hours of pre-approval and 8 hours of pre-placement RFA training. The RFA training program will provide you with valuable information about the foster care system, the needs of children, and what it means to be a Resource Family.

Level of Care Funding The LOC rates range between $1,037 to $1,387. If you have concerns regarding the LOC assessment completed by DCFS for a child in your care, you are encouraged to discuss your concerns with your assigned county worker to determine if an LOC redetermination request is needed.

Requirements to be a Respite Parent Single or married, and at least 25 years old. Live in a home that passes health and fire safety inspections and has room available for at least one youth. Clear state, federal, child protective services and driving record background checks.
