The NAHL prides itself on the social maturity and skill development of student-athletes ages 16-20 with aspirations of advancing to collegiate and/or professional hockey. Currently, more than 1,500 NAHL alumni play in the NCAA, and 50+ more play in the NHL.

Currently, certified agents may begin “advising” players at the age of 14.

The only way NHL scouts will notice you is by bringing your A-game every night and playing well at the highest level possible. Along with good play, you have to plan, train and position yourself for hockey scouts to notice you.

The USHL is one of two USA Hockey-sanctioned “tuition free” junior leagues, but remember it is the only Tier 1 league. That means the players do not pay to play. It features 16 teams playing in two divisions mainly scattered around the Midwest.

(a) A team must start a game with a minimum of six player s. Any time that a team has been reduced to less than four player s, the game shall be declared a forfeit. A maximum of 20 player s, in which not more than 18 are skaters, shall be permitted to play in the game.

We suggest exploring NCAA, global hockey and ACHA camps to maximize on exposure and access to college coaches during the recruiting process. Recruits can find hockey camps and tournaments near them. Another tool that college coaches turn to in their recruiting efforts is highlight video.

Once on the puck, scouts want to see players that can handle pressure and exhibit patience to find the next play. Puck protection and utilizing playmaking vision are the key elements they are looking for. On the flip side, avoiding going 'glass & out' or throwing pucks away would be something to avoid.

Do players have to pay-to-play in the NAHL? No. As the only USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier II Junior league, players do not pay to play in the NAHL.

Earning a hockey scouting job requires a vast knowledge the game and of hockey player skills, as well as how those two things relate to each other. It also requires a strong love of the game, because the life of a hockey scout is rarely a glamorous life.

Affiliate players are not on the official protected roster for the Junior team, but can play in a maximum of 6 games per season with the ability to play more under certain conditions.
