What if my cat has a microchip from previous owner?

Animal Services maintains a database with local microchip numbers and corresponding owner information. To change the owner information in the local database, the previous owner of the pet needs to complete a transfer of ownership form.

If you are the new keeper of a pet, you can transfer the microchip into your details. You will need the pet's microchip number and exact date of birth to transfer the registration online. If you don't know the date of birth, you can ask the previous keeper to start the transfer from within their account.

Animals that are taken to a vet clinic, shelter, rescue, or humane society are routinely scanned for a microchip. Once scanned, the staff will know to contact 24Petwatch. We will then contact you to let you know your pet has been found and help reunite you.

Register with 24Petwatch. There's no cost, but so many benefits! When you create an account, you're connecting your contact information to your pet's microchip. So, if your pet ever goes missing and is found, we'll be able to contact you.
