Remember, whoever you choose to your system must be a licensed installer. All licensed installers are issued a license by the State of Louisiana's Onsite Wastewater Program. (Note: A licensed plumber is not the same as a licensed onsite wastewater system installer).

Precast Concrete Septic Tanks Are The Clear Choice The best choice is a precast concrete septic tank. Precast septic tanks hold many advantages over plastic, steel, or fiberglass tanks. This is why so many cities and towns actually require the use of concrete septic tanks.

Septic tanks work by allowing waste to separate into three layers: solids, effluent and scum (see illustration above). The solids settle to the bottom, where microorganisms decompose them. The scum, composed of waste that's lighter than water, floats on top.

Type 1: Treatment by a septic tank and dispersal field only. Type 2: Treatment that produces an effluent consistently containing less than 45 mg/L of total suspended solids and having a five-day biochemical oxygen demand of less than 45 mg/L.

Graywater Recycling Laws “A person shall not directly or indirectly discharge, or allow to be discharged, the contents or effluent from any plumbing fixtures, vault, privy, portable toilet, or septic tank, into any road, street, gutter, ditch, water course, body of water, or onto the surface of the ground.”

Mechanical treatment is pre-treatment of incoming wastewater preparing it for biological treatment. At this stage, coarse insoluble impurities are removed.

The three types of sewers are sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and combined sewers. All three of these sewer systems play important roles in ensuring that the waste we produce is transported and treated properly.

The LUS-75 Camp Unit is a Limited Use Sewage System as defined in Chapter 13 of the Louisiana Sanitation Code and should only be used in camps or structures occupied less than four (4) days per week and less than 100 gallons of sanitary sewage is generated per day.
