If you have vision in one eye only, your vision will be screened using only your functioning eye. The screening will check that you meet the standards set out in Ontario Regulation 340/94 ( s. 18), which includes both: a visual acuity, which is measured by the Snellen Rating, that is not poorer than 20/50.

Vision Test #1: The California DMV Vision Screening Exam In other words, if you can see better than 20/40 in the better eye, and better or equal to 20/70 in the poorer eye on the Snellen eye chart, you pass the screening and no other vision testing or information is usually required.

NOTE: An applicant for driver license renewal is required to take a road sign recognition test and vision test.

RESTRICTION — A special need that must be met in order to drive legally. Restrictions are marked on the driver license. For example, if you must wear corrective lenses to pass the vision test, then you must also wear them while driving. Your license will have an “A” restriction (for corrective lenses).

If both your natural and corrected acuity vision are worse than 20/160, or your peripheral combined is worse than 70 degrees, you cannot take the driving test and cannot have a driver license. The road sign test will check your ability to recognize and understand traffic signs.

You must not have more than one driver's license, and your driving privileges must not be suspended, revoked, canceled or disqualified in Missouri or any other state. You must meet the medical requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

People with monocular vision can legally drive in all 50 states and in the District of Columbia. If you lose vision in one eye as an adult, you may benefit from visual training activities with an occupational therapist. Learning or relearning to drive with monocular vision is possible.
