Your indoor humidity should always be between 40% and 60%.

Many people with central humidifiers go into the cooling season forgetting to shut down the humidifier for the summer. A central air conditioner will not cool or dehumidify properly if the humidifier is running. So please remember to turn your humidifier off at the end of each heating season.

The humidifier attached to your furnace or HVAC system is set based on relative humidity. A comfortable relative humidity for most homes throughout the summer, spring, and fall is between 30% and 50%. If you set your humidifier to this level, it should be comfortable for your home and family most of the year.

Whether you're trying to reduce humidity in the summertime with a dehumidifier or you're trying to increase humidity in the wintertime with a humidifier, the ideal humidity range for your Healthy Home is between 40% and 60%. If your indoor humidity is outside of this range, your Indoor Air Quality is at risk.

The blower activation switch is set to the “ON” position to allow your AprilAire Whole-House Humidifier control to activate the HVAC fan for maximum humidification. For this setting, be sure Model 500, 600, and 700 units are connected to hot water.

To set the moisture level, both humidistats operate identically. To start, set dial to “normal” selection, if you feel that you have a tight home, set to “5” in the normal range, “4” if you feel you have average home and “3” if you have an older home with looser construction.

A central humidifier addresses these issues by providing you with the ideal indoor humidity all winter long. The most comfortable level to set your humidistat is between about 35 and 55 percent relative humidity. This is the range when bacteria and viruses can't live as long and annoying static shock is minimized.
