Not all students will qualify for a full refund when withdrawing from an online class. If you get your request in to the registration office early enough, you will be issued a full refund. If, however, you start to attend class and then withdrawal after class starts, you may be entitled to a partial refund.

But there is a limit: You may not enroll in the same course more than three times. (A withdrawal from class due to active military orders does not count toward this limit.) If you get a W or a substandard grade in the same course twice, De Anza's online enrollment system will not allow you to enroll for a third time.

You will get 100 percent of tuition back if you drop the class before the first day of the academic term. You will get 75 percent of tuition back if you drop the class on or after the first day of the term through the 10 percent point of the term.

Unit Load Limitations Twelve units is the minimum number of units required for classification as a full-time student. A normal class load will be 12-17 units. New students may not exceed a maximum of 21.5 units during their first quarter of enrollment at De Anza without the approval of the dean of Counseling.

Excused Withdrawal: An EW is assigned when a student is permitted to withdraw from a course due to specific events beyond the student's control, which affect their ability to complete the course. The EW symbol may be assigned at any time after the deadline to drop a course without receiving a W.

During the First Two Weeks of the Quarter (For detailed instructions, see the MyPortal Registration Guide.) There will be no grade recorded if you drop before the deadline. You may also be eligible for a refund, but students must submit their refund request from MyPortal.

You may drop classes online by logging in to MyPortal: Open the "Apps" page and click on the "Student Registration" tile, then click on the “Add or Drop Classes” link. If you drop after the eighth week of the quarter, you will receive an appropriate grade for whatever work you completed.
